Bayswater CFA assists in Heathmont blaze

Bayswater fire brigade-CFA were called to support Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) at a significant house fire in Heathmont on Monday morning.

The call came in shortly after 11am on 11 August, with multiple Triple Zero reports alerting authorities to a blaze at a single-storey weatherboard home.

Upon arrival, crews were met with a 10 by 15 metre house fully alight, the flames already spreading to the roof of a neighbouring property.

Bayswater CFA’s pumper joined several FRV appliances on scene, with firefighters working side by side in breathing apparatus to search both properties and ensure no one was inside.

Residents along the street were evacuated due to the heavy smoke, and were monitored by Ambulance Victoria crew.

The fire was brought under control at 11.52am – just 38 minutes after FRV crews arrived, but not before one home was destroyed and another sustained significant roof damage.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours to fully extinguish hotspots and monitor the area.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and will be investigated.

Victoria Police, CFA and Ambulance Victoria all assisted at the scene.
