Dandenong Ranges forecast for high winds, alerts issued

High and damaging winds are expected across much of Melbourne today and this evening and emergency services are issuing alerts for residents to be aware on Friday 29 August.

A severe weather warning is now in effect for Central, West, and South Gippsland, including the Dandenong Ranges, Bayside Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula, and Wilsons Promontory after a midday alert was issued by VicEmergency.

Damaging winds of 55–65 km/h, with gusts up to 100 km/h, are expected between 11pm and 5am tonight. Winds are expected to ease by Saturday morning.

Residents are urged to:

Stay indoors and avoid travel.

Secure loose items outdoors.

Charge devices and expect power outages.

Park cars away from trees and powerlines.

Be cautious of fallen trees, powerlines, and road hazards.
