Sharks bite Panthers

By Iain Harley
DAY Two of the Ferntree Gully and District Cricket Association’s Round 6 saw only three games get under way with Johnson Park managing to defend 112 against Eildon Park.
The Sharks bowlers did the job with Samaraweera, Bowen and Wise all taking three wickets. The Panthers will be disappointed with the result dropping from second to sixth on the ladder, when a top spot was there for the taking.
A patient Monbulk waited for the rain to clear before continuing their pursuit of Knoxfield’s 144. Recommencing at 2/43 the Hawks managed to pass the Knights score with 5 wickets down.
Jason Fraser batted higher up the order than on previous occasions this season and made 76 to add to his five wickets last week.
Chris (45) and Mike (36) Coen made solid contributions to the Hawks score.
Faulkner was the only bowler to stand up for the Knights taking 5 wickets.
Upper Ferntree Gully managed to get a start but failed to get a result finishing the day on 8/128 in reply to The Basins 160 set last week.
Dean Roberts top scored for the Kings making 41 whilst Calvin Sheen was the best bowler for the Huntsmen.
All other games in Knox Tavern Cup did not manage to bowl a ball.
In the Decoite Shield, Footballers were the only team to claim 6 points completing a first innings win last week against Auravale. This allowed the Griffins to make up some ground on ladder leaders Lysterfield.
Former South Belgrave player Glenn Maxwell has been selected in the Australian Under 19 squad for next year’s World Cup on the back of performances for Victoria in the Under 19 Carnival played in Tasmania.
Maxwell’s highlight for the championship so far would have to be his 75 against South Australia (with six 4s and three 6s).
