MONBULK 29.15.189 d Mt Evelyn 7.4.46.
THE contrasting fortunes of ladder leaders Upwey and Monbulk was comprehensively demonstrated over the past fortnight with Monbulk delivering successive hidings while the wounded Tigers have stumbled to consecutive defeats.
Monbulk’s clinical 143-point dissection of Mt Evelyn was another awesome display of power football that began steadily and built to a deafening crescendo as the game accelerated.
The daunting task of quelling Monbulk with the wind fell upon Haworth and Tesoriero, who desperately tried to fire the Rovers. The potency of Tolliday up forward and Hughson in defence left little scope for Mt Evelyn except to defend. Finding an abundance of avenues to goal, the Hawks inexorably compiled their tally in preparation for the second half.
With the wind abating, and a six-goal margin separating the sides, Monbulk was in no mood to be satisfied as they pressed forward to overwhelm the hapless Rovers with a second half that yielded a further 20 goals – 13 of them coming in a final-quarter saturation.
Goals: Gee, Tolliday, Cleven 4, Wragg, Haley, Comfort 3, Hicken 2.
Best: M. Hughson, L. Tolliday, S. Koole, R. Comfort, V. Dunstan.
Reserves
Monbulk 21.21.147 d Mt Evelyn 4.5.29.
Ravenhorst continued his press for senior selection with a dominating display to help the Hawks to a comfortable win over lowly Mt Evelyn.
Running riot across half forward, Ravenhorst helped himself to five majors while creating opportunities for veteran Calcagno and youngster Langworthy, who formed the basis of the assault. After leading by 45 points at quarter time, Monbulk systematically built on its lead each quarter to record a win by almost 20 goals.
Goals: Ravenhorst 5, Langworthy, Calcagno 3, Morris 2.
Best: Calcagno, Anderson, Coen, Fraser, Sands.
Under 18
Monbulk 13.7.85 d Mt Evelyn 2.4.16.
The Hawks recorded a comfortable win over Mt Evelyn without reaching any great heights in their play. Shaun Lucas remains the focal point up forward where his three goals were supported by Gavin Taylor who also added three in a fine effort. Andy Masters made a huge impact with his discipline and enthusiasm, while Shaun Weiring continues to impress all with his endeavour.
Goals: Lucas, Taylor 3, Weiring, Masters 2.
Best: A. Masters, M. Coen, G. Taylor, T. Wright, D. Cleven.
