THE drought has broken but the dam held firm at Emerald Golf Club. Conditions were difficult to begin with but as the rain tumbled down, so too did the scoring. The course rating was set at 69, which reflected the trying conditions.
When the sodden cards were collected, dried and counted, it was discovered that one of the first out, Bruce Trollope reigned supreme. His score of 37 points gave him the overall win and the nod in C Grade from his 22 handicap. His win was slightly assisted by Graeme Lawler, who resisted the temptation of putting his signature on his soggy card of 38 points and was disqualified.
B Grade was won by Dennis Fuller, who, playing off 15, scored 36 points. A Grade was won by Graeme White with 31 points, playing off 13. He won on a countback from Rod Ward and Ross Martin. A big day for the A Graders!
Nearest the pins was won by Trollope on the second and he also picked up the cash for the pro pin on the 18th. Ben Balfour won on the 12th while Ross Martin played a shot, which got him nearest on the 13th hole.
This was the second round of the three-round Sam Ritchie Winter Cup. After two rounds Fuller finds himself leading on 78 point with Trollope on 75 while Bob Moulday and Leigh Morison are blowing down his neck on 74. It will be interesting to see how the next round pans out with many threatened challenges coming from all sides.
All golfers, who know an Emerald member, and who would like a free round of golf, should get that member to bring them down to the course on Saturday, 29 July for a fun round of golf. There will be a competition for those with and without handicaps so all have a chance at victory.
Bruce wins on wet track
