A HAPPY coincidence has persuaded a local preschool to roll birthday and Christmas celebrations into one.
Mother and daughter Tracy and Rahni Harrison were set to lead the birthday celebrations at Upwey Preschool yesterday (Monday).
Tracy, now president of the preschool, attended as a four-year-old 30 years ago.
Now her four-year-old daughter, Rahni, is kicking around the kinder and both looked forward to celebrating its 50th birthday at a Christmas concert yesterday afternoon.
But the milestone might have passed by unnoticed had it not been for a chance discovery in the Harrison household.
“While renovating our house this year, we came across some old newspapers lining the ceiling,” Tracy said.
“One was from 1956 and had a little article on the official opening of the preschool.”
Opened by Lady Angliss on 17 November 1956, the preschool has undergone few changes in appearance and atmosphere since Tracy played there 20 years later.
“There’s been a bit of colour added and a few cosmetic changes, but the building is exactly the same,” she said.
“I’ve been really involved with the kinder recently and it’s been a lovely year.”
Rahni and her friends also love it and looked forward to singing carols and taking a slice of a massive birthday cake at the party.
Tracy invited readers who could not make it to join the fun from 2007, with enrolments for three and four-year-olds’ kinder now open.

Enrolments are also available for Friday morning playgroup by calling Tracy on 9754 2362.
