EMERALD State Emergency Service was one of 25 units to get a sneak preview of new protective clothing and equipment earlier this month.
Police and Emergency Services Minister Tim Holding revealed the gear to SES volunteers at Parliament House.
Mr Holding said the State Government was spending $2.9 million in the next four years on new clothing and equipment for the SES. Emerald SES volunteer Leigh Johnson said the unit was now waiting on an order of overalls and wetweather gear.
Mr Johnson said the distribution of the new clothing and equipment to SES volunteers was awesome.
He said the new clothing was putting essential equipment into the hands of the volunteers, giving them the ability to help the community in times of crisis.
Mr Johnson said the new equipment and clothing should be in the hands of the Emerald SES volunteers by next week.
SES spokesman Peter Cocks said this was the largest single issue of protective clothing.
“More than 3000 pairs of overalls, 2900 sets of wet weather gear and 1264 pairs of boots are being issued around the state over the next few months with every SES unit receiving gear,” Mr Cocks said.
