A HIGH-FLYING Ferntree Gully rider took out top prize in last week’s Summer Sessions BMX competition in Healesville.
Dave McComb’s win in the open section on Saturday, 21 January, was his second of the summer after he came first in the Monbulk session on Monday, 9 January.
Mr McComb overcame strong opposition from 11 riders in the event run by the Shire of Yarra Ranges Youth Services and sponsored by Boronia’s BMX Mad bike shop. The win left Mr McComb well placed for the final at Yarra Junction on Australia Day.
But Mr McComb had set his eyes on a bigger prize, driving to Sydney with friends to ride in a major competition that drew top riders from interstate and overseas.
Mr McComb’s home venue is the Knox Bowl, where he enjoys riding with friends and looks to compete whenever he gets the chance.
“I’m enjoying the progress of the sport, which is growing and getting huge.
“It’s a lot more chilled out in Knox. It’s a really great place to ride,” he said.
