East hits the stage

By Tania Martin
SOUNDS of Russian folk music and the melodies of a German accordion orchestra will be just some of the entertainment on offer at the Cuckoo Restaurant this month.
This month of international music will start on Easter Sunday, 23 March, with the Melodies Trio taking centre stage.
The trio of Russian folk musicians includes Nathan Guiffine, Farida Mogorin, and Tamara Vasilevitsky and promises to provide a great night of light classical, folk and gypsy music.
The group first started playing together more than 10 years ago after immigrating to Australia.
Melodies Trio will perform a mixture of Russian, Spanish and Italian folk and gypsy tunes.
Hills people are being urged to enjoy a meal and night of entertainment at the Cuckoo while helping to support the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. The Cuckoo has pledged 10 per cent of its takings for that night towards the appeal. This night of entertainment will cost $45 per person. Diners will also have the opportunity to see the De Capo Accordion Youth Orchestra from East Germany live in concert at the Cuckoo later this month.
The orchestra is having a one-off performance at the popular eatery as part of its Australian tour.
The members of this group have studied and played music together for years under the guidance of Undine Sinnhoefer.
They have toured Canada and are now embarking on an Australian tour, which will finish in Melbourne.
The orchestra will perform at the Cuckoo as part of the restaurant’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Ms Sinnhoefer said the orchestra was excited to be part of the Cuckoo’s birthday celebrations. For a night of accordion entertainment including German folk songs and modern pop music, Hills people should not miss the orchestra’s performance on Saturday 29 March.
To make a booking for one of these nights call the Cuckoo Restaurant on 9751 1003, or visit the restaurant at 508 Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, Olinda.
