KNOX Ford Raiders has scored another gun recruit in its bid to build its 2008 SEABL premiership side.
Daniel Briglia will don the blue and gold of the Raiders, as he gets ready to take to the court this season.
Briglia will give the Raiders some added strength in the front of the court and will attempt to fill the void left by retirees Craig Simpson and Lincoln Rosa.
The 197cm forward gave Raiders fans a sneak preview of what he has to offer in the PowerAde Invitational Cup in November.
It was clear from the beginning that this 24-year-old’s strength and determination are key elements of his game.
Considered an undersized power forward for the SEABL, which is outweighed by Briglia’s athletic ability to either play the small forward position or battle it out with the taller opposition power forwards.
A Frankston junior, Briglia has returned home to Australia after spending two years refining his ball skills in America.
He spent the past two years playing America College ball at Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa.
A close friend of retiring Raider Craig Simpson, Briglia has taken the opportunity to continue his basketball career at a high level playing with Knox.
Raiders head coach Graham Longstaff said Briglia was a very strong guy and a really good team player and should be a great asset to the squad.
“I see him as being a nuts and bolts type of player for us – almost like a Simpson,” he said.
“If Briglia can provide us with some of the play Simpson used to give us, we’ll be in good shape.”
Briglia will join Nick Payne and Senad Dizadarevic as new recruits for the 2008 season, which has got Raiders fans excited about the upcoming season.
Knox Ford Raiders memberships are also now available from the Knox Converse Stadium in Boronia or by calling 9762 1298.
