MACCLESFIELD Primary School has taken out this year’s Planet Ark National Tree Day photo/banner competition.
Its entry was selected from about 130 nationally and won it a whole-school viewing of The Lorax movie, a visit from The Lorax himself, and $1000 worth of videos.
The school’s banner represented the environment surrounding it, which it wants to extend into its grounds by planting habitat trees to share with all the native wildlife that lives close by.
“We hope we have created a Friendship Forest that children can explore, enjoy and study,” the school’s competition entry read.
To make the banner students used orange fabric and painted symbols from The Lorax to make the link between the iconic story and their actions.
“It also shows the tree-covered hills and small ephemeral creek that border our fenceline and nature walk,” they said.
