One of the hills’ most recognisable beards is no more, with Emerald SES Unit Controller Ben Owen braving a big shave, all in the name of men’s health.
Fulfilling the ‘man-scaping’ duties was none other than men’s health advocate and Gembrook MP Brad Battin.
The local MP joined in many supporters of the Emerald SES to witness the occasion, with Mr Owen saying there was an important message to share.
Mr Owen’s own father was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but got on to it early and now has a clean bill of health.
“It hits everybody in some way or another, men’s health. So if you can take anything away from this … encourage your dads, or your husbands or whatever, to get them to the doctors and get a blood test,” he said.
“Seriously, fellas, if you don’t go to the doctors, you’re silly … early intervention is the key.”
Through the shave, Mr Owen raised almost $2000 for the Movember Foundation.
