Emerald Secondary College has announced a partnership with Born to Soar, which will see the establishment of a new Centre for Gifted and Talented Education.
To start in term one of 2018, and located at the school, the initiative aims to support students in their academic endeavours.
The partnership includes numerous courses aligned to the Australian curriculum, initially offering a pre-secondary schooling Year 5 and 6 Entersoar program.
This collaboration will allow Emerald to become the first secondary school in Victoria to utilise the experience of Born to Soar to develop one-day gifted education courses for Years 7 to 10.
College principal Jodie Doble said it was an exciting period for the school.
“Emerald Secondary College is very excited to be able to offer students in our area an opportunity to be a part of this gifted and talented educational opportunity,” she said.
“The association with Born to Soar will allow Emerald Secondary College to expand our successful extra curriculum programs for the benefit of all participating highly able students in reaching their full potential.”
According to Born to Soar, Emerald Secondary College has a strong history of academic success, with a high proportion of students being accepted into tertiary institutions.
The ‘One Day School’ located at Emerald Secondary College will shortly open for enrolments for term one.
Boarn to Soar Chief Executive Officer, Angus Giles, said this partnership underlined the trust between the new parties.
“In addition to our courses, Born to Soar will be delivering valuable professional development in gifted education to the Emerald Secondary College in order to build on their successful teaching foundation within the school,” he said.
Meanwhile, the college will be included on the www.giftedschools.education website.
This initiative offers support to parents who are searching for schools that cater for gifted and talented students in their area.
