Ironwoman taking on Cairns ironman

Laura Healy from Selby will be using all of her muscles to support people living with muscular dystrophy, when she takes part in this year’s Cairns Ironman.

Ms Healy will be competing in the Cairns Ironman on June 9, completing a 3.9km swim, 180km bike ride, and finishing with a 42.2km run.

Ms Healy said it was her brothers that inspired her to take up the challenge.

“My passion for health and fitness stems from my family situation.”

“Every day I see my brothers Matt & Rob who have no control or no choice over their health or their bodies, and I believe those that do have the ability to, should take full advantage of that.””I decided I needed to make this Ironman achievement more than just a goal for me to achieve, but also use it as a way to make a difference and raise funds for the exact reason why I’m so driven to take on a big goal like this.”

“Raising money for MDA means that I am still able to give back and help while dedicating so much time and energy to this goal”.

Laura’s goal is is to raise $10 for each kilometre of the ironman event. Over all she will cover 226 kilometres.
