Yarra Ranges children and families will be able to see inside a bee hive, celebrate the Hungry Caterpillar’s 50th birthday, enjoy a teddy bear’s picnic and more as part of Children’s Week 2019 celebrations.

From 18 to 27 October, Children’s Week events will be presented by Council in partnership with the Victorian Government and local community groups right across Yarra Ranges.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Cr Tony Stevenson, has encouraged families to check out the many activities on offer and join Friday’s launch of this year’s celebrations at a picnic at Seville Water Play Park, organised by Seville Community House and the Yarra Ranges Council – Early Years team.

“Families can celebrate the beginning of this year’s program with a relaxed picnic in the park,” Cr Stevenson said.

“There will be lots of activities, the chance to explore the playspace and water play areas, as well as the opportunity to meet local children’s service providers and other families.

“Whether you’re taking your teddy bear on a picnic at Yarra Junction or Chirnside Park, or discovering how honey is made at Lilydale, there’ll be something for all families and children in the Yarra Ranges.

“Children’s Week is a great time to recognise, encourage and celebrate our children’s skills, abilities and talents.”

The theme of this year’s Children’s Week is Article 24 of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states: ‘Children have the right to good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food and a clean environment so that they will stay healthy.’
