Community saves big day

Sheree and Shane Hudson had big plans for their big day, but when the snap lockdown a few weeks ago saw Covid restrictions brought back in once again, everything was thrown up in the air.

Having planned to hold their wedding at home, Sheree and Shane soon realised that all their friends and family wouldn’t be able to attend due to number limitations, but thanks to the local Gembrook community and many helping hands, their magical day was made possible after all.

“We had to re-organise everything to be held at the park instead of our house,” the bride, Sheree Hudson said.

“But it was just a perfect day.”

“At the end of the day, we’re pretty laid back people and we weren’t after a big fanfare or anything,” Ms Hudson said.

“But seeing as we’ve got five kids between us and the restrictions meant we could only have five guests in total at our home, we didn’t really have a choice.

We had so much help from local businesses and it was great to be able to support them as well,” she said.

“Everyone was so amazing and we are just so grateful.”

The wedding celebrant and Gembrook local, Virginia Lawrence, said that it was incredible to see the community pulling together to make Sheree and Shane’s big day possible last month.

“It was so heartwarming to be part of an event where everyone does pitch in and makes it happen, despite the odds,” Ms Lawrence said.

“Their friends and family put up a runner and arbour in the park, and we popped over to the Station House restaurant to find a table and chairs – and the head chef brought them over for us, it was just amazing.

“They really saved the day, and it just goes to show that love really does conquer all,” she said.
