A huge clean-up is underway in Kallista after a truck hauling stones overturned on a busy round-a-bout in the towns centre.

Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol said they were called to the roll-over on Monbulk Road about 11.30am on Tuesday 23 March.

“A 24-year-old male was stuck inside and had to smash the window to get out,” the Highway Patrol spokesperson said.

“14-tonne of crushed rock went all over the round-a-bout and road, causing it to be closed for four hours,” the spokesperson said.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said paramedics were called to the crash to assess the driver.

“One person was assessed at the scene but didn’t require treatment or transport,” the spokesperson confirmed.

VicRoads remained on scene for the remainder of the afternoon to clear the crushed rock.

The police spokesperson said the truck was not overloaded and it was most likely a case of brake failure.
