$1 million worth of drugs seized

Southern Metro Crime Unit detectives have charged a man after nearly $1 million worth of cannabis was located during a drug investigation in Melbourne’s south-east.

More than 300 plants weighing about 267kg were located at an unoccupied property on Maisey Road in Gembrook last Friday morning, 1 October.

About $45,000 in cash was also seized from the Berwick man’s car.

A 44-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged with cultivate large commercial quantity of a narcotic plant (cannabis), traffick large commercial quantity of drug of dependence, theft and negligently deal with proceeds of crime.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 10 January.
