Ferntree Gully CFA has donated $686 to Foothills Community Care, with the money raised from members of the brigade.

The money was donated by members of the CFA brigade to support the community group in hosting regular meals and a Christmas lunch it has organised.

Foothills Community Care is a non-for-profit organisation that provides meals, support and an opportunity to hang out on Wednesday Nights in Ferntree Gully and Monday nights in Upwey.

Founder Steve Barrington and his team will be providing a Christmas Eve lunch for residents and those in need at St John the Baptist School in Ferntree Gully.

“We are incredibly fortunate to be in a community like the Ferntree Gully,” Mrs Barrington said.

“We are preparing for our 20th annual Christmas lunch where we have 250 to 300 people along in two different sittings and the CFA donation has made a huge difference for us.”

Ferntree Gully CFA Captain Seamus Smith said Foothills Community Care has a huge task ahead of them cooking for so many members of the community and the CFA was happy to help with donations.

“It’s a community organisation supporting other community organisations,” Mr Smith said.

“We need to be supportive of other community groups to help people in the area.”

The 20th annual Christmas lunch will be on Christmas eve and interested people can contact Foothills Community Care at contact@foothillscare.org.au.
