20-12 Belgrave Park playspace upgrade completed

The Belgrave Lake Park Playspace has received a $1.2 million face lift with the renewal project officially being completed on Thursday 16 December.

The project was funded by Yarra Ranges Council and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s Growing Suburbs Fund.

Yarra Ranges Council Deputy Mayor Cr Joanna Skelton said the timing of the opening was fantastic with the school year coming to a close.

“This renewal gives our community so many more reasons to visit Belgrave Lake Park,” she said.

“The refurbished rotunda, off-leash dog area and flat area of the park will be great spaces for everyone to meet, while the platypus theme of the park is a wonderful reminder of the local wildlife who rely on the waterways and surrounds to survive.”

The main playground equipment has been upgraded and also now includes a drink fountain and picnic shelter.

Cr Skelton thanked the state government for supporting the project as part of their Growing Suburbs Fund.

“The inclusion of Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung language and culture also ensures that kids and adults alike gain an understanding that we are all custodians of this land now,”

“You could see at the opening just how excited the kids are for it, so much so that they were clamoring to cut the ribbon!”

Several other upgrades to the area were also completed including the relocation of a fitness equipment hub, barbeque equipment and additions to the carpark.
