Council starting storm recovery door knocking

Yarra Ranges Council will be commencing door knocking in early April as a part of their proactive storm recovery efforts.

Outreach Recovery workers will be visiting residents within the Yarra Ranges to help support them navigate the various services available to them as a result of storm and flood damage.

Yarra Ranges Council Mayor Jim Child said after the last two years it makes sense to door knock residents and lend a hand.

“First the pandemic and then the storms, we’re going through some tough times and the importance of a five-minute conversation really does go a long way, especially to those who live on their own and those who may still be struggling,” he said.

“Yarra Ranges Council is doing everything we can to support our community after the Storm and checking in with people about their concerns as we get closer to the one-year anniversary of the storms and how we can continue to support them is tantamount.”

The door-knock checks have been planned over several weeks and include delivering a leaflet with helpful emergency contact details and a copy of the council’s recovery newsletter.

Doorknocking will take place throughout Mt Dandenong and Kalorama over April, with council staff undertaking home visits carrying all relevant identification and complying with Covid-19 restrictions.

Support provided may include an initial chat about your needs and appropriate next steps, referrals to support agencies and services, and information on how to access local services.
