Rotary Club of Emerald has given the residents of Emerald Glaives an Easter surprise with gift baskets made by local students.
The Easter baskets were made by students at Emerald Primary School and given to residents of the aged care home on Thursday 14 April.
Emerald Rotary President Shalini Penny said the initiative was organised through their community group.
“At Christmas, we normally try and get kids from the primary school to come along to sing and perform with them,” she said.
“For Easter, the kids at the primary school have decorated little bags as part of this process, and then we put the little easter eggs into the bags that will then be given to the residents.”
Emerald Primary principal Emma Clark, who is also a Rotarian, helped organise the gifts made by her students.
Ms Penny said the events mean a lot to the residents of the home.
“I think they’ll realize that the people outside that they’re not just restricted to the home and forgotten about,” she said.
“They will know that there’s people out there that look after them and think about them and their welfare.”
Ms Penny said it’s good for people to know Rotarians do more than just raise funds for appeals and charity.
“It’s good to get the name rotary out there for people to have understanding of what we do,” she said.
It’s more than being at a market or a BBQ, doing a sausage sizzle. There’s a lot more depth to us than that.”
