The Victorian Government has encouraged all Victorian not-for-profit organisations and local councils to apply for a grant to host an event celebrating Children’s Week in October.

The grants will support organisations and councils to deliver free activities such as art exhibitions, outdoor or messy play activities, dance workshops, arts and crafts, musical and story-telling performances, drawing competitions and picnics.

Minister for Early Childhood Ingrid Stitt called for eligible organisations to apply for a $1,000 grant to help host activities for children and their families to celebrate this year’s festivities between 22 to 30 October.

“Children’s Week is a great opportunity to celebrate young children and educate them about their right to a standard of living that supports their wellbeing and healthy development and this year’s Children’s Week will showcase the importance of the early years and will bring communities together after the challenges of the pandemic,” she said.

“The grants will help local organisations to host fun and exciting events and activities that celebrate children while finding new innovative ways to engage with local communities.”

This year’s theme ‘All Children have the right to a standard of living that supports their wellbeing and healthy development’ is based on Article 27 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

More than 18,000 children and families took part in Children’s Week in 2021, across 107 events.

Applications for grants close at 5pm, 15 July 2022. To apply visit vic.gov.au/childrens-week.
