The Victorian Government has stocked 1000 rainbow trout across waters in Melbourne, including in Ferntree Gully Quarry, Lilydale Lake, Emerald Lake and Don Lake.
The stockings are funded by the state government’s $35 million Go Fishing Victoria plan and through fishing license fees.
60 rainbow trout were stocked into Ferntree Gully Quarry across late august and early September, while 120 fish were introduced to Lilydale Lake, 30 at Emerald Lake and 30 at Don Lake.
Minister for Fishing and Boating Sonya Kilkenny said stocking the waters with rainbow trout provides “the perfect opportunity for locals and visitors to try their luck casting a line and have a great day out on the water.”
A daily bag limit of five trout applies to Family Fishing Lakes of which only two can exceed 35cm.
