The Liberal Party has matched a previous election promise from the Labor Party to fund an upgrade to Bayswater South Primary School, all but ensuring the school will receive funding after the November 26 state election.

Both parties have now committed to an $11.07 million upgrade to the almost 400-student school, after the Liberal Party’s announcement on Monday 10 October.

Ferntree Gully MP and Liberal candidate for Bayswater Nick Wakeling said in a statement the funding would give students and teachers access to the best facilities.

“This upgrade is a serious boost for Bayswater South Primary School and is a real solution in supporting the school community,” he said.

“Only a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will back local families and students by delivering this much-needed upgrade.”

The 50-year-old school building will now be upgraded regardless of which party forms government after the election.

On Tuesday 20 September, the Labor Party announced if re-elected it would modernise the classrooms at the school.

Bayswater MP Jackson Taylor said he was “stoked to announce that a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will be delivering $11.07 million to upgrade and modernise a ripper local school in Bayswater South Primary.”

“I’m so proud to be the local voice inside the Andrews Labor Government,” Mr Taylor said.

“I’m proud to have been able to deliver over $70 million in school funding during my time in Parliament, and I don’t plan on slowing down.”
