After a car accident in Sassafras on Thursday 20 October, a man in his late teens has been taken to the Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
Paramedics treated the man at the scene for serious but non-life threatening injuries just after 11.20pm on Basin-Olinda Road, before taking the man to hospital via air ambulance helicopter.
CFA crews from Kalorama, Olinda and Monbulk fire brigades worked to extricate the man from the vehicle.
Olinda Fire Brigade Captain Philip Skiller said it took over two hours for crews to complete the rescue, having to winch the vehicle out of the tree to access the man and use battery-operated ‘Jaws of Life’ to secure the vehicle.
“This guy’s very lucky,” Captain Skiller said.
“The message is beware of the road conditions…you’ve got to drive to the conditions at all times,” he said.
Victoria Police was also on the scene, with the incident declared under control at around 2am.
