22-year-old Boronia man dies in collision after alleged attempted armed robbery

A Boronia man died when the vehicle he was driving collided with another car after an alleged attempted robbery in Wonga Park.

A Boronia man has died when the vehicle he was driving collided with another car after an alleged attempted robbery in Wonga Park on Wednesday 26 October.

Police alleged two men entered a shop on Yarra Road armed with a weapon around 3pm, before fleeing empty-handed in a blue Ford Falcon.

Police said a short time later, the vehicle allegedly collided with a white Nissan Patrol on Homestead Road.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to hospital with minor injuries, while the driver of the 22-year-old driver of the Falcon died at the scene.

His passenger, a 25-year-old South Yarra man, was taken to hospital and interviewed by detectives before being charged with attempted armed robbery, handling stolen goods, drug possession and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
