Total fire ban announced following soaring temperatures

With the Bureau of Meteorology predicting a top temperature of 38 degrees in Melbourne, Friday 17 February has been declared a Total Fire Ban Day for Central Victoria.

No fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air until midnight Saturday 18 February.

The Yarra Glen forecast predicts a chance of a thunderstorm through the morning and afternoon, posing possible fire danger.

The day will be partly cloudy, with a 20 per cent chance of rain.

Sun protection is recommended from 9.40am to 5.10pm with the UV Index predicted to reach 10 (very high).

Saturday will see temperatures drop to a maximum of 25 degrees and partly cloudy.
