Scoping works on the new Boronia Station have now started, as the $60 million upgrade begins in earnest.

The upgrade was an election promise at the 2022 state election and will be completed by the Level Crossing Removal Authority while work is done on nearby level crossing removals on the Belgrave-Lilydale Line.

Bayswater MP Jackson Taylor said the government is “getting on with upgrading Boronia Station.”

“Which will help connect a community previously separated by the rail line, making it easier for people to access local shops, buses, schools and places to eat,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the project complete, as it will completely transform the heart of the suburb and improve accessibility for everyone who uses it.”

Decking will be placed over the southern rail trench to create a new community space and create pedestrian access from the car park to the Dorset Road shops.

Other upgrade options being explored include façade upgrades, improved lighting, CCTV cameras and platform upgrades.

The new station is expected to be completed by 2026, along with 12 level crossings removed on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines, meaning the Belgrave Line will be crossing free between Ferntree Gully and the city by 2025.
