A man is still on the loose after an incident which saw him steal a vehicle with a toddler still inside in Dandenong earlier this week.

The toddler has been located at Ferntree Gully Woolworths, on Burwood Highway, on the afternoon after a car was stolen with the two-year-old boy on board.

Officers are now calling out to the public to help them bring this man to justice, who is believed to still be in possession of the stolen car and remains on the loose.

On Monday 24, June, just before 3.30pm the car was stolen as a person saw an “opportunity” while the car’s owner stepped out of the vehicle to speak to another driver on Cleeland Street in Dandenong.

Investigators say the vehicle in question, which remains missing, is a black Kia Carnival, registration 1WU5QT.

Police say the child was found wandering around the aisles of the Ferntree Gully Woolworths about 4.35pm, and was not injured during the incident

He has since been returned back to his family.

Police are still searching for the stolen vehicle, and ask the public to get in contact if they have any information or spot the vehicle.

Anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, information or who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
