Lawn bowl enthusiasts can enjoy the new installation of competition lighting at the Boronia Bowls Club, made possible by the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Bayswater Jackson Taylor joined Knox City Council Deputy Mayor Cr. Jude Dwight and Federal Member for Aston, Mary Doyle MP, to formally launch the club’s six new light towers, made possible by a $60,000 grant from the Labor Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
With 190 members of all ages, and social bowls more popular than ever, the Boronia Bowls Club is a focal point in the area.
Member for Bayswater Jackson Taylor said Boronia is the bowls hub in the local area, locals deserve appropriate facilities they can be proud of.
“The new lighting is a real boon for Boronia bowls, providing the club the opportunity to welcome more players; and take the local game to the next level,” he said.
The 100 lux lighting is competition-standard and enables the club to cater for increasing demand and host more bowls, from barefoot to pennant throughout the year.
The lights are also energy savers with efficient LED fittings spreading even light, improving safety for players and encouraging greater participation in lawn bowls for all.
Thanks to the new installation, the club can now build on its memberships, extend pennant competitions and host more intra and interclub events.
The Victorian Budget 2023/24 is providing more than $213 million to deliver and improve community sports infrastructure and support initiatives that boost participation and inclusion in local sports clubs and organisations.
Mr Taylor said sport needs to be made more accessible for Victorians.
“Better sport and recreation facilities make it easier for Victorians to get involved in local sport and recreation and lead healthy and active lifestyles,” he said.
This brings the Labor Government’s investment into community sport and recreation infrastructure to more than $1.9 billion since 2014.
Jackson Taylor MP acknowledged project partners Knox City Council and Boronia Bowls Club for their funding contributions of $30,000 each and commitment to deliver the project.
