The state government is getting on with upgrading Boronia Station – which will revitalise the station and surrounding area to deliver a modern and accessible precinct for the local community.
Since the announcement of this major election commitment, site investigations, geotechnical surveys and site inspections are already underway which will inform options for the upgrade.
Design options being explored include decking and a new landscaped community space to provide locals with a vibrant recreational and meeting space.
Other opportunities being explored include facade upgrades to create a more modern station and improved lighting to create a safer and more accessible transport precinct.
Member for Bayswater Jackson Taylor said an upgraded Boronia Station will transform the heart of the suburb by creating a more liveable community space for locals and a safer and more modern transport hub for all transport users.
“This is something locals have called for, something I promised we’d do at the last election and now within one year I’m stoked that works to deliver a modern, 21st century station locals deserve are now underway,” he said.
The Boronia Station upgrade will be delivered by 2026 and complements the work currently underway to build two new stations and remove a further four level crossings on the Belgrave-Lilydale Line.
In total, 12 level crossings will be removed on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines, with eight already gone for good. This will make the Lilydale line level crossing free by 2025, and the Belgrave Line level crossing free between Ferntree Gully and the city.
The government is getting rid of 110 level crossings across Melbourne by 2030, with 72 already gone, boosting safety and easing congestion.
