Detox home this autumn

Household chemicals and pesticides such as bleach, weed killers, cleaning products, and fire extinguishers cannot be put in rubbish bins or poured down the drain.

Join the 2024 Knox Detox Your Home event on Sunday 19 May and the council will help residents dispose of these items safely and easily without harming your health, pets, or the environment.

Hosted in conjunction with Sustainability Victoria, the event will take place at the Knox Operations Centre, 14 Henderson Road, Knoxfield, from 9am to 4pm.

The council will collect and help get rid of tricky items including:

Acids and alkalis Aerosol cans (empty cans go in household recycling)

Anti-freeze, brake fluid, car body filler, car wax cleaners – ammonia-based

Cooking oil

Coolant

Detergents, disinfectants and drain cleaners

Fertiliser

Fire extinguishers

Floor-care products and waxes

Fuels – petrol, diesel, kerosene, others

Glues – water-based and solvents

Herbicides and weed killers

Insect spray and pesticides

Nail polish and remover

In addition to the above, this year, the council is trialing the collection of household and car batteries, expandable Styrofoam, and vapes so, bring these along too.
