Join the Adaptation Game: A Workshop for Resilient Communities

Join the Adaptation Game: A Workshop for Resilient Communities Yarra Ranges residents are invited to take part in an interactive board game-based workshop on Wednesday, February 5 at the Monbulk Living and Learning Centre.

Co-hosted by the Monbulk and District Community Opportunities Working group (MADCOW), The Adaptation Game (TAG) is designed to help individuals and communities better understand extreme weather events—such as heatwaves, floods, and fires—and identify practical actions to build personal and community resilience to weather-related challenges.

TAG Yarra Ranges is informed by scientific research and participants will join other community members in simulating how they and their community might respond to weather-related challenges, exploring strategies to reduce risks and enhance preparedness as well as understand the projects and programs already being implemented by Council.

Speaking on the importance of preparing for local challenges in the future, Yarra Ranges Council Mayor, Jim Child said the game was an opportunity to understand our local risks and act in advance.

“Community resilience is built on shared understanding and collective action,” Cr Child said.

“The Adaptation Game offers residents a unique and practical way to come together, learn about local risks, and take steps to prepare for future challenges. It’s about equipping individuals and communities with the tools to create a safer, stronger future.”

Co-president of the Monbulk and District Community Opportunities Working Group (MADCOW), Aimee te Boekhorst, has encouraged residents to take part in The Adaptation Game workshop.

“It’s a great opportunity for our community to come together, learn more about the risks we face from extreme weather, and explore practical ways to strengthen our resilience,” Ms te Boekhorst said.

If you’re interested in playing The Adaptation Game, register your expression of interest.

The workshop is on Wednesday 5 February 05.30pm- 08.30pm at the Monbulk Living and Learning Centre.

A TAG facilitator will guide the session, and the game is suited to people aged 16+.
