Crash in Cockatoo

A Croydon Hills man and Bundoora woman are injured but safe recovering after their car was believed to have lost control and crashed into a tree in Cockatoo last week.

Police are investigating after the crash led to a multi-service response to free the woman who was person trapped in the car on Bailey Road on 4 May after it allegedly hit a tree.

A police spokesperson said that It is believed a car lost control and crashed into a tree on Bailey Road about 5.45pm.

“The driver, a 54-year-old Croydon Hills man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” they said.

“His passenger, a 45-year-old Bundoora woman, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson confirmed that both people were transported by road to the Alfred Hospital in a stable condition after being treated for upper body injuries.

SES Emerald Unit volunteers were also called to respond following reports of the vehicle crash and unit controller at the time Ben Owen said the front passenger was trapped for over an hour.

“Crews arrived to find one patient had self-extricated from the vehicle involved, while another was observed to be mechanically trapped inside the vehicle,” a VICSES spokesperson said.

“Volunteers worked to successfully extricate the patient before transferring them into the care of paramedics.”

A media spokesperson from CFA said they were also on scene and assisted other agencies in ensuring the everything was safe.

“CFA had three vehicles on scene from Cockatoo, supported by Fire Rescue Victoria,” they said.

“The incident was declared under control at 6.05pm and safe at 6.11pm.”
