E-bike recalled

An e-bike was recalled on 28 May after issues with the bike’s battery was reported to heat up and cause fires.

The Santa Cruz Heckler 9 e-bike with interchangeable 720W lithium-ion battery has had four individual reports of the battery causing fires, including property damage.

There’s a risk of burn injuries and damage to property if the battery catches fire.

Consumers are urged to stop using the e-bike immediately and disconnect the battery from the e-bike and charger.

If the battery is affected, users can register their details to receive a replacement battery when one becomes available in mid-July 2025. If the battery is not affected consumers may continue to use their e-bike.

Remove the downtube cover before disposing of the battery, as you will need the cover to use with the replacement battery. Dispose of the affected battery in accordance with local requirements. Do not put the battery in household waste.

Contact Santa Cruz Bicycle if you require further assistance with this recall or have sold or gifted the e-bike to another person and forward this information.

Contact Santa Cruz Bicycle on email: quality.assurance@santacruzbicycles.com or call them at: 08 7095 0357, and select option 2 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday
