Cockatoo CFA asks for respect from community after alleged assault

A local CFA has asked for community to respect their volunteers in a heartfelt post over social media, after one of their own was allegedly assaulted.

Cockatoo CFA said via social media that there was an incident last week in which one of its members was assaulted while responding to an emergency.

While details cannot be shared due to an ongoing police investigation, the brigade has taken the opportunity to thank the community for its continued support.

In particular, they extended their gratitude to the neighbours at the scene, whose assistance and support were deeply appreciated by responding crews.

“We are proud to serve the Cockatoo community, and we stand united in saying that violence and abuse towards emergency services workers is never acceptable, especially against those who volunteer their time without pay or public recognition,” read the post from 8 June.

The CFA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the community and thanked residents for standing with their local emergency service volunteers.

“Thank you for standing with us,” read the post.
