Rotary for Rita

Local Belgrave Rotary members popped along for some community theatre over the weekend, raising vital funds for Rotary at the same time.

Members went to see ‘Educating Rita’ at The Basin Theatre, a cherished local venue nestled in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.

“Funds raised with this event will go to Boronia Rotary Club projects,” said Belgrave Rotary member Jessica.

Belgrave Rotary joined other fellow clubs for the afternoon and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“Educating Rita was a fantastic play about the educational journey of a woman studying at night school and her personal growth,” said Jessica.

Currently showing at The Basin and directed by Sharon Maine and airing it’s preview night on Thursday 7 August, ‘Educating Rita’ is a classic tale by author Willy Russell which is set in Liverpool.

27-year-old hairdresser Rita decides to complete her basic education before having children. It follows her as she signs up for a literature course in an open university and is tutored by middle-aged Dr. Frank Bryant. The leads are played by Francesca Carl and Daniel Minutillo.

The play runs for one more week, finishing it’s run on Sunday 17 August.
