Tragic head on collision in Lysterfield

A traumatic road accident has seen a woman lose her life overnight in Lysterfield, one man airlifted to hospital with major injuries, and another taken in for treatment under escort by the Police.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are now investigating the fatal collision after two vehicles collided on Lysterfield Road, north of Wellington Road, at around 11pm.

Police media have reported that despite the best efforts of emergency services to revive the woman driver of one vehicle, she was declared deceased at the scene.

A passenger from the second vehicle, a man in his 20s, was airlifted to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver in the same vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital under police guard.

A spokesperson from Ambulance Victoria said they responded to the collision last night, with both Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedics assessing and treating the three people at the scene.

“A man in his 20s was treated by ALS paramedics for minor upper body injuries. He was transported to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition,” they said.

The passenger airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital was a man in his 40s who was treated on the scene by MICA paramedics for serious upper-body injuries.

The collision is now being investigated by police, with roads still closed between Wellington Road and Napoleon Road on the morning of Friday 12 September.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, with footage or any information, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
