Platypus spotting at Belgrave Lake

A platypus spotting session is being organised at Belgrave Lake Park on Saturday, 11 October, to give locals the rare chance to observe the shy and iconic creatures in their natural habitat.

The free community event hosted by Yarra Ranges Council will be running from 5pm to 7pm at Belgrave Lake (35 Park Drive, Belgrave), and includes a relaxed introduction to the world of platypuses, from the threats they face in the wild to simple tips on how to spot one along Monbulk Creek.

Participants are encouraged to bring a chair, some water and snacks, and to dress for the weather, including mozzie repellent for the creekside sit.

The event is family-friendly and open to all, but spots are limited and registration is essential.
