THE Tibet Effect will be taking over the Gemco Theatre this month playing a one-off show of musical offerings from the Himalayas.
International musicians Tenzin Choegyal (Tibet) and Taro Terahara (Japan) will be playing in a special performance at the Gemco Community Theatre in Emerald on Thursday 5 December.
Mr Terahara is an accomplished bansuri master and leading musician in the highly competitive Indian classical music scene in Japan.
He said the bansuri is an Indian classical bamboo flute which beautifully captures the sound of the air, the mountains and the uplifting devotional mood of Krishna.
Tibetan singer-songwriter Mr Chorgyal said he felt particular connection to the music of the wandering people of his homeland and attributed much of his passion to those earlier influences.
Mr Chorgyal is a master of traditional Tibetan instruments and is well-known for is impressive vocal ability and his outstanding compositions.
The duo combined creates a unique musical experience which spans from contemplative and soulful music to exciting rhythmic tunes.
Both musicians have studied and toured extensively around the world and Mr Terahara said he enjoyed the exploration of his craft through collaborations as well as jazz recitals, odissi dance performances, Arabic and Chinese concerts as well as his regular performances with Mr Chorgyal.
The duo’s performances are powerfully expressive blending the seamless bansuri and vocal offerings in an interplay which is sensitive and beautiful.
The two artists draw on their rich musical traditions and allow the audience to experience the vastness of the high Tibetan plateau they create.
This charity event will have all proceeds going to the Philippines Typhoon Fund.
With one show only on 5 December at 8pm, tickets are $20.
