WOMEN can this weekend find empowerment with help from strong, inspirational female artists.
Burrinja will host Women’s Creative Empowerment Weekend this Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August.
Conversations between women at the gallery prompted the weekend.
Event co-ordinator Isha Molloy said it was an opportunity for women in the community to “explore simple, powerful and moving ways to hear and speak in their own unique, resonant voice”.
“In regaining the resonance of our voices and speaking from the depths of our bellies, we do much to re-awaken our women’s wisdom,” she said.
Local artists and health educators combined to prepare the weekend’s program.
Women can participate in a breath and sound workshop from 10am to 1pm on Saturday and tune into their body’s wisdom through movement and dance from 2pm to 5pm.
On Sunday they can share real life stories and short readings from three plays, enjoy ‘Art in Craft and Craft in Art’ and improvisation.
Facilitators include Christina Brockdorff, Cath Connelly, Isobel Forster, Jenny Hill, Emma Johnson, Yolette Levy, RuthAnne Molloy, Isha Molloy and Joy Serwylo.
Registration is at 9.30am each day.
Fees are $33 for the weekend, $22 per day or $11 per session on Saturday only.
Bookings are essential and can be made by calling Burrinja, 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey, on 9754 8723 or sending an email to events@burrinja.org.au.
