Crowds warm up to market

Plants were among the items for sale at the Mount Evelyn Twilight Market last Thursday.

DESPITE 40-plus degrees Celsius temperatures last Thursday, residents flocked to the Mount Evelyn Twilight Market to check out the latest wares and entertainment.
There were 47 stallholders all up, selling things ranging from food to collectables to toys.
While children enjoyed a visit from Santa Claus during the last market, which ran in the lead-up to Christmas, the special attraction this time was a magician on a unicycle.
Kathie and Gary Freeman from the Mount Evelyn Post Office, who organised the market as part of the Mount Evelyn Chamber of Commerce, said it went very well and seemed to be getting bigger and better with each one.
“It was a good night, we had a good walkthrough of people and everyone enjoyed it,” Ms Freeman said.
“It was a bit slow to start and a bit too hot for people to hang around but they managed to find shade to eat some food and have a picnic.
“The stallholders said they had a reasonable night from their perspective so business went well.”
The next twilight market will be on Valentine’s Day, on Thursday 14 February.
