A MOUNT Evelyn man has given a community group a helping hand and much needed funds for equipment as part of his 50th birthday celebrations.
Head instructor at Edge Martial Arts Kyoshi Andrew Roberts held an event on Saturday 23 March, where he celebrated his 50th birthday by sparring 50 competitors in one-minute rounds.
Hundreds of people turned out to the community event, which featured a barbecue and aimed to raise money for the Mount Evelyn’s Men Shed and prostate cancer research.
Thanks to donations on the day and contributions from local businesses, $2700 was raised on the day – $2000 of this was donated to the Mount Evelyn’s Men’s Shed.
John Hobbs from the Mount Evelyn Men’s Shed said the donation was generous and that it would help the group to buy new storage equipment.
