GRADE Five Silvan Primary School student Brayden won a chance to put his name on the regional winner’s trophy for shotput and discus.
Coming in just shy of winning a spot on the state team in divisional athletics last Thursday, 11-year-old Brayden said he gave it his best and is already looking forward to next year’s competition.
“In the first and second round at regionals, I placed first in shot put and discus but then in the third round I came third in shotput and had three no throws in discus,” he said.
“They only took the first and second winners through to state.
“It was a bit upsetting because I had done a lot of training with my Dad.”
Brayden said his keen interest in the sport started four years ago when he started competing in under-six competitions.
“My dad is my coach so it’s always great,” he said.
“It’s just fun going into competitions and versing people.
“After not getting through this year I am more pumped up and ready for next year.”
