New suburb set to rock

THE Lilydale community has shown strong support for the transformation of the Lilydale Quarry into a new suburb to be called Cave Hill.
More than 100 people participated in the community consultation during November and December through drop-in information sessions, online discussions and a community forum.
The site is expected to be turned into a vibrant new suburb over the next 15 to 20 years.
The site is owned by Sibelco Australia and its Group Development Manager Graeme Woodruff said the community consultation process had received positive community support.
“We are really pleased to have received to have received such good feedback through the consultation process and attribute this to engaging with the community over a long period of time,” Mr Woodruff said.
“The draft master plan was informed by feedback from the community during phase one of consultation in June and July 2013.
“It outlines a number of features for the site including how the site’s heritage will be preserved and celebrated, the location of key community facilitates and open space, and the locations of a diverse range of housing.
“Phase two sought feedback on this draft master plan and the comments we have received will help shape the final plan,” he said.
Sibelco Australia is working with Yarra Ranges Council and Places Victoria to prepare the master plan for the 170 hectare site.
The Lilydale Quarry is scheduled to cease operations by about 2014.
