Beaten with iron bar

Police are putting together the pieces of a serious assault in Yellingbo last night.
Lilydale Detective Allan Price said police were investigating the assault that saw a 51-year-old Warburton man left with serious injuries.
Det Sgt Price said that it was believed the man drove to Macclesfield Road when his female housemate called saying her car had broken down.
“While she was waiting, we believe she went to the toilet in the bushes and heard yelling and screaming,” Det Sgt Price said.
“Scared for her own safety she then fled, and was able to get a lift to the Belgrave Police Station to report what had happened.”
He said that the man was assaulted with what is believed to be a large iron bar, and that his attackers left the scene in the car his housemate had said was broken down.
“It’s a rural road, but would have been pretty busy given the time of day,” Det Sgt Price said.
“We’re calling on any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
The 51-year-old Warburton victim who had sustained a fractured skull as a result of the attack.
He remains in hospital at The Alfred.
Police are searching for the blue Ford sedan the female was driving, registration UQG 947, that remains stolen.
Investigators urge anyone with information about the incident or who may know the whereabouts of the blue Ford sedan to come forward.
Det Sgt Price said police were particularly interested in talking to “Meredith”, the driver of the car that drove the woman to the police station.

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted in Yellingbo last night.
Investigators have been told the man drove to Macclesfield Road to assist a female acquaintance after the vehicle she was driving had broken down, around 250m south of Beenak Road, just after 6pm.
Police have been told the 44-year-old Warburton woman went into the bushes to go to the toilet during which time she has heard yelling and a scream.
The woman has then fled to a nearby road to seek help, where she flagged down a passing car.
A female passerby in a beige Ford Territory, who went by the name of ‘Meredith’, took the woman to the Belgrave area where she notified police of the incident.
Emergency services located the 51-year-old Warburton victim who had sustained a fractured skull as a result of the attack.
He remains in hospital at The Alfred.

POLICE are investigating a bashing in Yellingbo overnight.A
 51-year-old Warburton man was left with serious injuries after being attacked when his car broke down.

Witnesses have told police that they saw a man in his twenties beating something into a drain with an iron bar, not realising he was attacking a person.
When the man stopped the attack, he and three others – another man and two women – got back into their car and drive off.
As the group left, witnesses realised that there was a man injured in the gutter, with serious head wounds.
Monbulk Leading Senior Constable Glenn Barkaway said police were called not long after 6pm and the man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
“He had some serious head wounds, and was conscious but incoherent,” LSC Barkaway said.
