Runners out in force

THE OPENING round of the Yarra Ranges Athletics cross country season was held at Morrison’s Reserve, Mount Evelyn last Saturday morning.
The big crowd of competitors turning out for the first round enjoyed a great new course and warm sunshine.
Distances of 500 metres, 1000m, 1500m, 2000m and 3000m were run with great fields in all races and wide range of ages in each field.
Highlights of the day were the outstanding efforts from debut parents Kate van Duuren, Katie Clarke and Kathi Hewitson.
Other performances of note included Amy Veenandaal and Ruby Dixon in the Open 3km event, Kiara Flavel in the 1000 metres, Zac Clarke in the 1500m, Jackson Grice, Charlotte Compot over 500m and throwers Sam, Brianna and Brayden in the 2000m.
On Sunday, the club hosted the Lillydale Lake Fun Run.
Challenging courses over two kilometres, 5km and 10km was enjoyed by all competitors. The fun run will be back next year.
