Hikers hungry for more

Vegans coming together.

By JODIE SYMONDS

A GROUP of hungry vegan hikers are walking their way through the bushes.
The group of 25 hikers begin their monthly walk at Grants Picnic Ground in Kallista and finish the walk at Earthly Pleasures Cafe.
One of the hikers, Erick Winter said the idea stemmed around six months to create a group that involved exercise in the local area combined with vegan food.
The cafe was chosen because of its vegan desserts and other goods.
Mr Winter said anyone wishing to participate in the walk, must have an interest or are willing to eat vegan food.
“Anyone wanting to eat vegan food is welcome to join us,” he said.
“The numbers grow every month so we may have to branch out and do a picnic with goods from the cafe,”
“It’s a majestical walk through the bushes, there are animals to look at along the way and it’s a pretty well-known route around town.”
The 7.5km loop takes the group an hour and a half to complete as well as capturing a glimpse of the Puffing Billy train as it passes by.
The loop when taken in an anti-clockwise walk provides a more challenging exercise for the group.
There are plans to create an alternative route from Bayswater to Belgrave and some will be taking part next month.
The next walk to commence at Kallista will be 18 May, at 11am.
