THE last round of the Emerald Golf Club Championship was played last Saturday, with teenage maestro Broc Reynold leading the field after two solid rounds.
The three leaders of each grade played together so they could keep an eye on the opposition and sledge where inappropriate.
By the time the A Graders hit the 18th tee the game was over as young tyro Reynolds hung tough and extended his lead to win by 10 strokes with a total of 246 to be Club Champion for the first time.
In second place was Ken Hill on 256 and Mike Litchfield stormed in from the pack to be third with 257.
The A Grade handicap section was also won by Reynolds with 202 from Hill on 211 and Peter Glasscock in third place on 219.
The B Grade championship placings did not change at all with Leigh Morison leading the field into the final round to win with 257 from Allan Ecclestone on 264 followed by Con Whitlock on 277.
The B Grade handicap gong also went to Morison on 203 followed by Ecclestone on 207 and Ian Scott was third on 211.
The daily comp saw a resounding win by Peter Clowes (18) with a net 63 and the right to laud it over the B Grade crowd as well as the rest. A Grade saw Mike Litchfield (11) play an excellent round for a net 68.
From the rest of the crowd there was a mob finishing with 69. These included Reynolds, Glasscock, Ben Hardie, Ben Balfour and Whitlock.
In the ladies’ championship Brianna McCoy stood head and shoulders above the pack to win by such a distance the others faded to black.
On Wednesday when the Old and Feeble Golfers (OFG) staggered in the game was a stableford event in pairs with the pairs only being drawn after play. When play ended all wanted to be drawn, with Ken Hill (13) as he came in with 43 points. The lottery was done and he was drawn with Ian Scott (26) who came in with 38 to give them a winning total of 79. They were two points up on Ben Balfour 37 and Brianna McCoy on 40 for a combined 77.
Next Saturday with the championship out of the way, a quiet game of stableford is on the menu.
